Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts ran in for a landmark touchdown on Monday night as the Eagles maintained their perfect to the season with victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Eagles QB starred for Nick Sirianni's team in a 25-11 win at the Raymond James Stadium, rushing for his 29th career touchdown in the process to break the record previously set by Cam Newton on Monday night.
Hurts, a second round pick by the Eagles in the 2020 NFL Draft, completed 23 of 37 completed passes for 277 total yards with one touchdown and two interceptions but his running power was in evidence.
In the process of scoring the rushing touchdown, Hurts saw his total move up to 29 in his career after just 48 games.
That breaks a record achieved by Newton in 50 games during his time with the Carolina Panthers.
The touchdown from Hurts came in the third quarter thanks to a one-yard rush on the goalline. The Eagles were fourth-and-goal before Hurts managed to make his way into the endzone to hand his team a 20-3 lead and move closer to victory.
It takes Hurts to the total in two games fewer than 2015 MVP Newton and helped the Eagles move to 3-0 in their quest to go one better than last season when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Hurts has entered his fourth season as the starting quarterback for the Eagles, after being drafted with the No.
53 overall pick back in 2020. In April this year, the QB signed a new five-year deal worth $255 million (£209 million) to make him among the highest earners in the NFL.
